Free CV maker for freshers

A CV maker for freshers, for the CV you have not lived yet.

Folio is a free CV maker for freshers: you build the CV around education, projects, internships and skills instead of an employment history you do not have yet, and the finished PDF or DOCX downloads at Rs 0 with no watermark and no paid plan at the button. Before you export, Folio shows a deterministic ATS score out of 100 across 7 weighted criteria, so you can see how a screening system will read the page. Free is honest about its edges: it gives you a folio address like portfolio.wrxstack.com/yourname rather than a domain of your own, shows a small Folio credit on the public page, and caps AI drafting at 10 generations a month.

Write the fresher CV. Take the PDF with you.

Signing up costs nothing and asks for no card. Every layout is open, the ATS score is included, and both file formats come down clean. Free keeps your public page on a folio address with a small credit line; a domain in your own name and the full design gallery are Pro, at Rs 599 or $9 a month.

The real problem

The fresher CV problem is one empty section, not the whole page.

Nobody googles how to make a CV because they cannot type. Freshers search for it because there is a heading called Experience with nothing under it, and every template they open is built as if that heading were the point of the document. Three lines of education float at the top of an A4 page and the rest is white space that feels like an accusation.

The fix is structural, not literary. A fresher CV is not a professional CV with the middle removed. It is a different document, ordered so the reader meets the evidence first: what you built, what you studied, what you can operate, what you did in an internship or a college committee. Employment goes last, or it goes away, because it is the least interesting true thing about you right now.

Folio is built that way. The resume editor holds projects, education, outcomes, skills and certifications as first-class sections you can order however you like, so a page with no job history still fills honestly. And because the same account publishes a live page at portfolio.wrxstack.com/yourname, the project you can only summarise in two bullets on paper has somewhere to actually be seen.

How to make a resume for freshers

From a blank page to a downloadable fresher CV.

Five steps. Every one of them happens on the free plan, including the last one.

  1. 01

Put education where experience usually goes.

Degree, institution, year, and only then the specifics that carry weight: a strong percentage or CGPA if you have one, the coursework that matches the job, a thesis or capstone with a one-line result. Leave school marks off once you have a degree unless the employer asks for them.

  2. 02

Turn two projects into your experience section.

Pick the two you can defend in an interview. For each one write what the problem was, what you built, the tools you used, and what happened at the end. A college project described with a result reads like work. The same project described as a topic reads like a syllabus.

  3. 03

List skills you would be comfortable being tested on.

Split them into what you can actually do and what you have touched, and cut the rest. A recruiter reading a fresher CV assumes an inflated skills list, so a short honest one is the surprising choice and the one that survives a screening call.

  4. 04

Read the ATS score and fix what it names.

Folio scores the CV it just built, 0 to 100, across 7 weighted criteria. Structure carries 30 points, headings 18, selectable text 16, contact details 12, length 10, contrast 8, and risky elements 6. The ATS-friendly badge appears at 90 and above, before you export rather than after you apply.

  5. 05

Download the PDF, and the DOCX too.

Company portals want a PDF. Placement cells and consultants often ask for a Word file. Both come out of Folio free, unwatermarked, as many times as you want to fix a bullet and pull a fresh copy.

What to write in a resume for freshers

Six things you have, even if you think you have nothing.

Every one of these is a first-class section in the Folio editor, and every one of them can be reordered above employment.

Projects

The section that does the work.

For a fresher this is the strongest block on the page. Give each project a result, not a description: what it did, who it was for, how many users or records or hours it touched. A finished small thing beats an ambitious unfinished one every time.

Education

Detailed at the top, then quietly demoted.

Right now education is your credential, so it goes near the top with the coursework that matches the role. Two years into a job it drops to a single line at the bottom. Folio lets you drag the section down when that day comes, without rebuilding the CV.

Internships

Even the six-week one counts.

An internship, a summer training, a freelance gig, a paid or unpaid stint at a family business: all of it is real work, written in the same shape as a job. What you were responsible for, what you changed, what came out of it.

Skills

Tools, languages, and the honest tier.

Name the specific tools, not the abstractions. Folio keeps skills structured so the keyword gap analysis can compare them against a job description you paste in, and tell you which terms the posting expects and your CV never says.

Extras

Volunteering, clubs, and the things you organised.

A fest you ran, a team you led, a workshop you taught. These read as evidence of ownership when there is no job title to prove it, and they belong on the page as long as they are specific enough to ask a question about.

Portfolio

A live page the PDF can point at.

The same free account publishes a portfolio site at portfolio.wrxstack.com/yourname. Put that link in your CV header, and the project you summarised in two bullets is one click from being seen in full. A domain of your own is Pro, and the folio address costs nothing.

Which CV maker is completely free

For a fresher, the only row that matters is the download.

Most builders let you fill in an hour of work and then ask for money at the export. Read the shape of each trade, then confirm it on the vendor pricing page yourself, because vendors change terms often.

The competitor cells describe the published shape of each vendor's free and paid tiers, not a price, because prices rot. Folio's own limits are on this page and on /pricing: 0 custom domains on Free, core portfolio designs, 10 AI generations a month, and a Folio credit on the public page.

Before you sign up

What free does not include, said out loud.

Free covers the whole CV: every layout, the ATS score, the job-description match, and both exports, with nothing withheld at the download. The limits live elsewhere, and you should know them now rather than at minute fifty of your evening.

Free gives you zero custom domains. Your public page sits at portfolio.wrxstack.com/yourname and a domain in your own name is a Pro feature at Rs 599 or $9 a month. A small Folio credit shows on that public page, AI drafting stops at 10 generations a month, and the portfolio design gallery on Free is the core set rather than all 60 themes. None of those limits touch the resume file you download. If some other builder promises you a free plan that includes your own domain, open its pricing page and read it slowly.

One capability we do not have, stated plainly: Folio cannot take a CV you made in Word or Canva, read the file, and score it. The engine reads the layout, theme and content Folio itself holds. That is a deliberate trade. Rather than grade a finished document and leave the repairs to you, Folio builds the CV inside layouts where the parsing rules hold by construction, and shows you the number before the file exists. There is also no LinkedIn connect button and no GitHub sync; you paste your text in, and we would rather say that than imply a button we never built.

FAQ

Honest answers.

Which CV maker is completely free for freshers?

Test any of them with one question: after the hour of typing, does the file come out without a payment? Folio passes it. Building costs nothing, the ATS score costs nothing, and the PDF and DOCX come down at Rs 0 with no watermark and no export credit to buy. What Free withholds is a domain in your own name and the full portfolio design gallery, both of which sit on Pro. The document is never the thing we hold back.

What should a fresher write in the experience section of a resume?

Write projects there, and label the section honestly. Two academic or personal projects, each with the problem, what you built, the tools, and the result, read like work to a recruiter and give an interviewer something to ask about. Add internships, freelance jobs and paid college roles in the same shape. If the section would still be empty, delete the heading rather than leave a hollow one and let projects carry the page.

Which type of resume is best for freshers?

A single page in reverse-chronological order, but reordered so education and projects sit above employment. Do not reach for a purely functional layout that hides dates, because screening systems parse it badly and recruiters read it as concealment. In Folio you drag the sections into that order and the layout stays machine-readable, so you get the fresher ordering without paying for it in parse quality.

Is a fresher CV built in Folio ATS friendly?

It is engineered to be, and you can see the proof while you edit. Folio grades the CV it produced from 0 to 100 on 7 weighted criteria, with structure worth 30 points, headings 18, selectable text 16, contact fields 12, length 10, contrast 8 and risky elements 6. Cross 90 and the CV carries an ATS-friendly badge. The score is deterministic, so the same page always returns the same number, and the layouts keep text selectable and headings parseable by default.

How do I make a fresher CV in PDF format for free?

Create the account, fill in education, projects, skills and any internship, pick a layout, then press export and choose PDF. That is the whole path, and no step in it asks for a card. Come back next week, rewrite a bullet for a different company, and pull a fresh PDF; re-exporting is not metered and a CV you built while paying nothing does not get locked away later.

Is there a subscription I will have to cancel later?

Not unless you deliberately buy Pro. The free plan does not start a trial clock, does not collect a card at signup, and does not roll into a charge, so there is nothing to hunt for in a settings menu at the end of the month. People ask this constantly about CV tools, and the reason they ask is that they have been caught before.

Can AI write my fresher resume for me?

It can draft, and Free includes 10 generations a month. Give it your course, your project and the role you want, and it proposes a summary and bullet points for you to correct into your own words. Two cautions. That drafting step calls an external model, which we explain on our AI privacy page, and an AI sentence that inflates a college project will collapse in the first interview question. The analysis parts, the ATS score and the keyword gap against a job description, run natively and are deterministic.
