Data analyst resume

A data analyst resume that shows judgment, not a tools list.

A data analyst resume should prove judgment, not inventory software. Write each bullet as the question someone asked you, the data you pulled, the method you chose, and the decision that changed once you had the answer, then let SQL, Python, and your BI tool sit in a skills block where a parser can read them. Folio drafts that resume from a paste, scores it 0 to 100 across 7 weighted criteria an applicant tracking system cares about, and exports the PDF and DOCX free on every plan, Free included.

Build your data analyst resume. Read the score before a filter does.

The whole document is free: every layout, the ATS score, and a clean PDF or DOCX with no watermark. What Free leaves out is the polish around it. You get 0 custom domains, so the site is published at portfolio.wrxstack.com/yourname with a Made with Folio badge, and AI drafting is capped at 10 generations a month.

What to put on a data analyst resume

The six blocks a hiring manager actually reads.

Analyst resumes fail in a predictable way. They read like a course syllabus: SQL, Python, Tableau, Excel, statistics. That tells a reader what you have touched, never what you concluded.

Summary

Four lines that name your lane.

The data analyst resume summary is not a mission statement. Say the domain you know (marketing, finance, product, supply chain, healthcare), the stack you work in, the size of the data you handle, and one result you are proud of. A reader should be able to place you in about six seconds.

Skills

Group the stack so a parser lifts it cleanly.

Three or four labelled groups beat one long comma run. Query and code: SQL, Python, R. Analysis: A/B testing, regression, cohort and funnel analysis, forecasting. Visualization: Tableau, Power BI, Looker. Data plumbing: dbt, Airflow, Snowflake, Redshift. Keep spreadsheets in there too, since most analyst jobs still run on them.

Impact

End the bullet on the decision, not the deliverable.

Shipping a dashboard is an output. Retiring a weekly report because the dashboard replaced it is an outcome. Folio structures every bullet as situation, action, result, so the thing that changed is the last word a screener reads instead of the tool you opened.

Projects

A project counts when it has a stakeholder.

Self-directed analysis is real experience if you can name who the answer was for and what they did with it. Say where the data came from, what you had to clean, the method you picked and why, and the recommendation you made. Link the notebook or the write-up on your Folio site so the claim is checkable.

Keywords

Cover the terms the screen is filtering on.

Data modeling, ETL, star schema, data quality, experimentation, segmentation, retention, churn, KPI definition, stakeholder reporting. Paste the job posting and Folio shows you which of its terms are missing from your draft, so you edit against the actual req rather than a generic checklist.

ATS

A score you can see before you send anything.

Folio grades your resume 0 to 100 across 7 weighted criteria: structure at 30, headings at 18, selectable text at 16, contact details at 12, length at 10, contrast at 8, risky elements at 6. The ATS-friendly badge shows up at 90 and above.

How the builder works

From rough notes to a scored, exportable file.

You never start on a blank page, and you never fight the formatting. The layout already obeys the parsing rules, so the only hard part left is the thinking.

  1. 01

    Paste whatever you have.

An old resume, the text of a profile you copied, or ten scrappy lines about the last two things you analysed. Folio reads it and drafts a structured data analyst resume you can edit line by line.

  2. 02

Turn each bullet into a question you answered.

The builder walks your roles and asks for the part analysts habitually leave out: who wanted to know, what you measured, and what happened next. If a bullet stops at the tool, it is not finished.

  3. 03

    Paste the job description.

The keyword gap is native and deterministic, and it compares your draft against the posting text you paste. You see the analysis terms the role asks for and your draft never uses, and you close them in your own words.

  4. 04

    Check the score, then export.

Read the 0 to 100 score and the criteria pulling it down, fix them, and download the PDF or DOCX. No paywall, no watermark, and you can re-export as many times as an edit demands.

Entry level and career switchers

How to write a data analyst resume with no analyst job yet.

An entry level data analyst resume is not a weaker version of a senior one. It is the same document with a different order. Lead with a projects section, follow with skills, and let employment come third if the jobs you have held were not analytical. Nobody is expecting three years of experience from a first hire. They are checking whether you can frame a question, get honest data, choose a defensible method, and say what you would do about the result.

Add a course the same way you would add a job: the provider, the credential, the year, and then, in one line, the thing you built in it. A certificate on its own is a receipt. A certificate plus a cohort retention analysis you ran on a public dataset, with the finding stated in plain words, is evidence. Put certifications in their own section so a parser lifts the name and the issuer without guessing.

Add a project the same way too, but be careful about which one. The famous tutorial datasets are a signal you followed instructions, not that you can think. Pick something with a real stakeholder, even an informal one: the club whose signups you diagnosed, the team whose spreadsheet you rebuilt, the small business whose repeat-purchase rate nobody had ever calculated. Two projects written properly beat six listed as titles, and Folio gives you a portfolio page to host the full write-up so the resume can stay to one page and still link to the proof.

Where the money actually sits

Most builders are free right up until the download.

The trade to check is not the template count. It is what the export button does after you have spent an hour writing.

The limits, before you sign up

What the free plan does not include.

Free is not a trial, and the export is not the catch. It is also not unlimited. You get 0 custom domains, which means your site lives at portfolio.wrxstack.com/yourname and not at a name you own, and a Made with Folio badge is shown on it. AI drafting stops at 10 generations a month, media storage stops at 512 MB, and the portfolio design gallery is limited to the core themes. Pro removes those caps at Rs 599 or $9 a month, and Team is Rs 1,999 or $24.

None of that reaches the resume. Every layout and preset is open on Free, the ATS score runs on Free, and the PDF and DOCX come down clean however many times you revise. The gate is on the website polish, not on the document you need to attach to an application tonight. We would rather you read that here than discover it at the download button.

FAQ

Honest answers.

How do I write a data analyst resume?

Start from the decisions, not the dashboards. For each role, list the questions you were asked, then for each one write what data you used, how you analysed it, and what the business did differently afterwards. Once the bullets exist, the rest is assembly: a four-line summary naming your domain and stack, a grouped skills block, a projects section if your job titles undersell you, then education and certifications. Folio drafts this from a paste and asks for the missing outcome wherever a bullet stops at the tool.

What does an ATS friendly data analyst resume look like?

One column, no tables, no text boxes, no sidebar, and no contact details buried in a header graphic that a parser will skip. Standard headings, real selectable text rather than an image of text, and a normal font at a readable size. Folio ships layouts where those constraints already hold, then scores the finished document 0 to 100 on 7 weighted criteria, so you are told where the resume is weak instead of finding out through silence.

What skills should I put on a data analyst resume?

The ones the posting names, in the words the posting uses, and only the ones you could defend in an interview. In practice that means SQL first, a scripting language such as Python or R, spreadsheets, at least one BI tool like Tableau, Power BI or Looker, and the analytical methods you have actually applied: experimentation, cohort work, segmentation, forecasting, data cleaning. Group them under labels rather than dumping one long list, and skip the rated skill bars, which say nothing verifiable.

How do I write a data analyst resume summary?

Four lines, no adjectives you cannot prove. Line one places you: the role, the years, the industry. Line two names the stack you work in daily. Line three names the type of analysis you are strongest at. Line four is the single result you would want a stranger to remember. Words like detail-oriented and passionate are filler that every other applicant also used, so give the space to something specific instead.

How do I make a data analyst resume with no experience?

Reorder the page and bring the evidence forward. Projects go above employment, skills sit near the top, and every project names a stakeholder, a data source, a method, and a recommendation. A public dataset is fine as long as the question is yours and the finding is stated plainly. Non-analyst jobs still count when you pull the analytical parts out of them: the reporting you automated, the numbers you reconciled, the forecast someone relied on.

How do I add a data analyst course or project to my resume?

Give the course a certifications entry with the provider, the credential name, and the year, then attach one line describing what you built in it. Give the project a projects entry with the problem, the data, the technique, and the outcome, and link the full write-up rather than trying to squeeze it in. Folio publishes that write-up on your portfolio site, so the resume can stay short and still point at proof a reviewer can open.

Can Folio score a resume file I already have?

No, and we would rather say so than let you find out. The scorer reads Folio's own layout, theme, and content model, which is how it can be deterministic and run without sending anything to an outside service. Uploading a PDF made in some other tool and getting a grade back is not something the product does. What it does instead is build the resume inside templates where the parsing rules cannot be broken, and show you the score before you export.
