LinkedIn to resume

The LinkedIn profile to resume converter that tells you what happens next.

To convert a LinkedIn profile into a resume, open your profile, click More, and choose Save to PDF. That file holds everything you have written, and Folio turns it into a real resume: upload it or paste the text, and Folio rebuilds the content in an ATS-ready layout, scores that document from 0 to 100 across 7 weighted criteria, and exports it as a PDF or a DOCX at no cost. There is no connect-your-LinkedIn button on Folio, because LinkedIn does not give resume builders access to your profile. The export is the way in, and it takes about thirty seconds.

Bring the PDF. Leave with a resume worth sending.

Start with the profile you already wrote. Folio reads the file, shows the score before you commit, and hands back a document with no watermark stamped across it. Free while Folio is in beta, and no card is asked for at the download.

The conversion

How to turn a LinkedIn profile into a resume.

Four moves. The first one happens on LinkedIn, and it is the only part LinkedIn is willing to help with.

  1. 01

Save your LinkedIn profile as a PDF.

Go to your profile, click the More button under your headline, and choose Save to PDF. LinkedIn generates a text PDF of your headline, About section, every role, your education, and your skills. Nothing to install, nothing to pay for.

  2. 02

Drop that PDF into Folio, or paste the text.

Folio reads selectable text out of the PDF, so LinkedIn's own export works directly. If you would rather not download anything, select your About section and your roles on the page and paste them in instead. Both routes end in the same place.

  3. 03

Watch it come back as a structured resume.

Folio maps the profile into real resume fields: summary, experience with dates, education, skills, links. You pick a layout, and every layout is available on the free plan, not just the plain one.

  4. 04

Read the score, fix what it flags, export.

The ATS score appears before you download, not after. Fix what it points at, then export a PDF in A4 or Letter, or a DOCX if a recruiter asked for Word. No watermark on either file.

After the conversion

One paste, and the rest of the application comes with it.

Converting a profile is the easy half. The half that gets you an interview is what you do with the result.

ATS

A score on the resume Folio built, not a guess.

The check is deterministic and native to Folio, so the same resume always returns the same number. It reads the layout, the theme, and the content Folio produced, which together are the document you are about to send.

Rewrite

First-person profile prose becomes resume prose.

A LinkedIn About section is written as "I lead a team of six". A resume is not. Folio drafts the tighter version for you, and the free plan includes 10 AI drafting generations a month.

Cover letter

A cover letter that quotes the same history.

Paste the job description and Folio writes a letter against the resume you just converted, so the letter and the resume never contradict each other on a date or a title.

Portfolio

A live site from the same LinkedIn content.

The same extraction can build you a portfolio at portfolio.wrxstack.com/yourname. It is the link you put in your LinkedIn headline instead of pointing recruiters back at LinkedIn.

Tracker

Somewhere to put the applications.

A job-application tracker sits in the same account, so the resume version you sent and the company you sent it to stay attached to each other.

Word

DOCX, because agencies still ask for it.

Recruitment agencies frequently want an editable file so they can add their letterhead. Folio exports DOCX on every plan, including the free one.

The honest table

Folio, a typical resume builder, and LinkedIn itself.

Nobody on this page can import your profile automatically. Everyone works from the same export. What differs is what you are allowed to do afterwards, and what it costs to take the file home.

The question everyone asks first

Should your resume match your LinkedIn profile?

They should agree, and they should not be identical. If a title, a company, or a date differs between the two, a recruiter reads it as carelessness at best. So the facts match. The writing does not.

A LinkedIn profile is a standing advertisement written in the first person, aimed at anyone who might scroll past. A resume is a targeted document written in the third person by omission, aimed at one job. That is why a straight copy of your profile reads badly as a resume: the About section is too long and too warm, the skills list is padded with endorsements you never asked for, and the roles are described rather than evidenced.

When Folio converts the profile it keeps the spine, your roles, your dates, your education, your links, and gives you the tighter phrasing for the parts a resume treats differently. Recommendations, endorsement counts, follower counts, and your LinkedIn banner do not survive the trip, and they should not.

Free, spelled out

What free covers, and what it does not.

The conversion is free. The ATS score is free. The PDF and the DOCX are free, and there is no plan flag on the export route to check, which is why there is no watermark and no upsell at the download button. That is the part most builders sell, and it is the part Folio does not.

Here is what the free plan does not include, said before you find out yourself. You get zero custom domains, so your site lives at portfolio.wrxstack.com/yourname and not at yourname.com. A small "Made with Folio" line shows in the footer of that public site, though never on the resume file you download. AI drafting is capped at 10 generations a month. The portfolio theme gallery is limited to the core designs, while the full set is on Pro. Every resume layout, by contrast, is free.

Pro is Rs 599 or $9 a month and is what removes the domain limit, the footer line, and the theme limit. If all you came for is a resume built out of your LinkedIn profile, you will never be asked for it.

FAQ

Honest answers.

How do I download my LinkedIn profile as a PDF?

Open your own profile, look under your headline for the More button, and pick Save to PDF. LinkedIn builds the file on the spot and it downloads in a few seconds. On the mobile app the same option sits behind the three-dot menu. The file it gives you is real selectable text, not a screenshot, which is exactly why a converter can read it.

Does Folio connect to my LinkedIn account?

No. LinkedIn stopped letting third-party products pull profile data, so a builder promising a one-click import is working from your PDF export or your public profile URL underneath the promise. Folio skips the theatre and asks for the file or the text directly, which means nothing of yours gets authorized away to a third party.

Can a LinkedIn profile be a resume?

Not on its own. Applicant tracking systems parse a document you attach, and most application forms will not take a URL in place of one, so a profile link cannot do the job of a file. A profile is also written to be browsed, while a resume is written to be filtered. Convert the profile into a document, then keep the profile as the place people land after they have read it.

Is the LinkedIn to resume converter actually free?

Yes, including the download, which is the step that usually costs money elsewhere. Sign up, convert, score, and export a PDF or a DOCX without a card. What you do not get on the free tier is a custom domain of your own, an unbranded public site footer, or more than 10 AI drafting generations in a month.

Where is the CV section on LinkedIn, and does LinkedIn store my resume?

There is no CV section on your public profile, and visitors cannot see any resume you have uploaded. Files you attached during an Easy Apply are kept in your job application settings, where only you can reach them. The document you can always produce on demand is the Save to PDF export of the profile itself, and that is the file Folio works from.

Can I make a CV instead of a resume from my LinkedIn profile?

Yes. The same conversion feeds the longer academic format, where publications, teaching, grants, and conference talks get their own sections and length stops being the enemy. Pick a CV layout after the import rather than a one-page resume layout, and the ATS scoring adjusts what it expects of the document.

Will Folio score the LinkedIn PDF I upload?

It scores the resume it builds from that PDF, not the PDF itself. Your LinkedIn export is a page print, so grading it would tell you nothing useful. Folio pulls the text out, rebuilds it in a layout where the parsing rules cannot be broken, and reports how that new document does across the seven criteria before you export it.
